Summer in Southbank

Front Bar

Melbourne is alive at this time of year as January so often provides the hottest and sunniest weather. With a successful Ashes cricket series all over its time to move onto the tennis and the Australian Open begins here in Melbourne on Monday 13th January. Some hot temperatures are on the horizon so here are a few of the best places to enjoy a refreshing beverage or two pre or post tennis.

Firstly BearBrass, for 12 years now this award winning venue have been running their Eat, Drink, Water taxi service direct from the venue to the Rod Laver Arena and Melbourne Park. Cruising up the Yarra is the perfect way to travel to the tennis and BearBrass offers breakfast, lunch and dinner packages starting from $30 a head. This includes a meal and drink, return water taxi from BearBrass to the tennis and a drink on your return. This sets your day up perfectly and is also a great way to beat the traffic! BearBrass is located on the riverside at Southgate Restaurant and Shopping Precinct and can be contacted on 03 9682 3799 for further information.

Next up is Ludlow Bar & Dining Room, located on the banks of the Yarra River in Southbank. Ludlow’s sun drenched terrace has long been a favourite for people-watching and the views out over the river are truly stunning. Within walking distance of Melbourne Park, Ludlow Bar & Dining Room is a perfect spot to enjoy brunch, lunch or just drinks before heading to the Australian Open this year. Head down on Sunday afternoon for their legendary Sunday sessions where you will find a cracking atmosphere, live percussion, DJ’s and $20 cocktail jugs and buckets of beer! What more do you need…

Last on my list of recommendations for a thirst quenching drink would be Turf Bar situated on the corner of Queen & Bourke Street in the CBD. If you in and around the city or staying in the CBD, give Turf Sports Bar a go. Melbourne’s premier sports bar will be showing all of the tennis live throughout the two weeks. With great food and drinks on offer it’s definitely worth stopping in.

One last thing to remember – drink responsibly, and enjoy the Summer!
